Expandable Polystyrene (EPS)

OVERVIEW

Expandable Polystyrene foam (EPS) is a lightweight rigid product with many uses. It is made in various grades with density ranges from 0.7 lb./ cu ft to 3 lb./ cu ft. The product is composed of small round beads that have been expanded by steam heat. The expanded beads are poured into a mold, and more steam welds the beads into a finished rigid block of EPS foam ready for fabrication.

EPS is widely used for packaging dunnage, floatation, and insulation. We offer a full line of Geofoam EPS foams for building construction and architectural applications. Various grades of EPS are called out specifying the nominal density and the load bearing capacity usually in PSI (lb./in2). EPS foams have compression resistance values ranging from 5 PSI to 60 PSI.

EPS foams are easily fabricated into shaped for protective packaging. Dunnage applications include crating, pipe welding, blocks, boat hull supports and lightweight pallet manufacturing. Concrete forming and void filling blocks, crown molding, and architectural columns as well as stage props are all products where EPS is the material of choice, since it is lightweight, has a low cost and is moisture proof.

Sterling has been fabricating EPS solutions for decades. You can count on our years of experience to provide the right answer to get the job done.
